The Darth Maul Tarantula is a striking New World arboreal from Mexico, famous in the hobby for its dark coloration and dramatic red-orange abdomen. Psalmopoeus victori is a fast, active species with an impressive feeding response and classic Psalmopoeus personality.

Quick Facts

  • Common Name: Darth Maul Tarantula
  • Scientific Name: Psalmopoeus victori
  • Origin: Mexico
  • Habitat Type: Arboreal
  • Size: Approximately 5–6 inches (12–15 cm) leg span
  • Lifespan:
    • Females: approximately 10–15 years
    • Males: approximately 3–5 years
  • Temperament: Fast, skittish and potentially defensive

Coloration

  • Deep black to charcoal overall coloration

Housing

  • Enclosure Type: Arboreal β€” height and vertical retreats are important

Give it a secure vertical retreat and plenty of anchor points. Psalmopoeus species can create impressive silk retreats.
