The Gooty Sapphire Ornamental (Poecilotheria metallica) is a spectacular blue Old World arboreal tarantula from Andhra Pradesh, India. Its speed and medically significant venom make it a specialist display species for experienced keepers.
Behavior and Temperament: Extremely fast and capable of defensive behaviour when pressured. It should not be handled.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Use a tall, secure arboreal enclosure with vertical cork bark, strong cross-ventilation, a water dish and moderate moisture without stagnant air.
Feeding: Feed appropriately sized crickets, roaches and other feeder insects.
Additional Information: This species has no urticating hairs and relies on speed, retreating into vertical hides and a medically significant bite for defence.
