A standout member of the Poecilotheria genus, P. fasciata is lightning-fast, visually intense, and packed with attitude. Native to Sri Lanka’s forests, it’s an arboreal species known for its cryptic camouflage and jagged, high-contrast patterning. This is one of those spiders that demands respect — and admiration.

Coloration

Pale gray to cream body with bold black banding

Lightning-bolt leg markings and striped femurs

Yellow and black flashes on the underside of forelegs

Enclosure Type: Arboreal — tall enclosure with good vertical structures

Substrate: 2–3 inches of moist substrate

Humidity: 70–80% — mist occasionally, but ensure solid ventilation

Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)

Decor:

  • Tall cork bark slabs or tubes for retreat
  • Foliage (fake or real) for cover
  • Web anchors and a water dish

Will web into crevices or behind decor, usually hides during the day and becomes active at night.


Feeding

Diet: Crickets, roaches, locusts
